Last week the rescue team were called out to another macropod rescue, where a Kangaroo was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time!
Kate C and Andy were called out to this female Eastern Grey Kangaroo in the North Brisbane area that had been stuck in mud in a construction site all weekend. Luckily the construction workers had been able to pull her out of the mud hole she was stuck in, and find her some refuge in the bucket of an excavator, unfortunately she was suffering from a severe case of Myopathy and in need of urgent medical attention.
The team were able to get there very soon after the initial call, and quickly made the decision to take her back to the Australian Wildlife Hospital. Once she was under anaesthetic, Kate and Andy did a thorough assessment and found that she had a tiny joey in the pouch that had already passed away. The team quickly transported her back to the AWH for treatment.

THE BEGINNING~
So, I decided to start a blog on my Journey from New Jersey to Australia. I probably should start by introducing myself. My name is Melissa. I am a freshman in High School and I am 14 years old. My birthday is in the amazing month of July. I have never been quite sure what I wanted to do with my life but I have always been drawn to outdoor adventure type jobs that include animals of course. I have 2 dogs currently but at some points I had up to 6 pets! I know I am still young to be worried about my entire future, but it could never hurt to look around….so that is where my journey begins.
I was sitting at home the last few days wondering about where I was headed in life. I have been a good student and daughter and now am planing on joining my school’s cross country team.I was thinking about careers and future locations to live. Growing up in New Jersey, close to New York City, I have been exposed to many cultures. I have considered moving to Tennessee, but decided against it. Other locations I have considered have been California, New York, and…..Australia. After thinking about my preferences and desire to explore I have decided upon Australia.
As for a job, I have been going back and forth for so long. Interior design, Culinary, Personal Trainer/Fitness Coach, Music, and a Marine Mammalogist/ Zoologist. The main reason I chose Australia, is because it was the only location that offered all of the above as potential jobs. The Great Barrier Reef, Sydney Opera House, and many Zoo’s…including the Australia Zoo, are just the beginning. The locals seem very appealing to, not to mention the accent and vocabulary that comes along with them. The climate was also another factor that aided in my decision.
This blog is going to keep everyone and myself on track throughout my journey from New Jersey to Australia. I will be discussing any further decisions I make and the reaction of others as I move along in my life.
Until next week,
~~Melissa

Hi Bindi
I have just been watching your programme ‘Bindi the jungle girl’ with my dad. We enjoyed it very much. I heard you talk about your blog. This is my first time blogging and thought it would be nice to blog you. I live in Bury England.
I thought of a question for you about Blackie.
What does Blackie the python eat and how often.

My school is building and creating a wildlife garden and I will be helping out, so I have become a wildlife warrior, thanks to australia Zoo and especially, Steve Irwin for showing me the way.
Is anyone else building a wildlife garden?

What Happened
A monsoon low moved into south-west Queensland bringing record falls to many usually parched areas of the state. Quilpie and Charleville have had more than 140 millimetres since 9am AEST, March 1, and in Birdsville records were made by the rain with nearly 200 millimetres in the two days before. The monsoon low was combining with another system off the south-east coast that was bringing driving rain from the Sunshine Coast to the Gold Coast.
In the south-east, the heaviest falls have been north of Brisbane, as another low off the south coast delivers heavy rain from the Sunshine Coast to the border. The Sunshine Coast received the heaviest falls with more than 150 millimetres overnight. Some roads were cut and residents in low-lying areas were being warned to prepare for flooding.
My Thoughts
I was REALLY worried for Steve’s Place! I thought of what could happen to the animals and actually began to cry. Please, sign the petition to Save Steve’s Place. It matters ALOT to me. I have grown up to be an animal lover and Steve Irwin is my hero and he is exactly what I want to be. Please, just give your name to the petition, that’s all I’m asking. Help save those animals! I saw the pictures. Maybe that’s what it will take for you, but just sign. Please!

hi irwin family & everyone!!
i have to admit its my first time visiting your site & i was thoroughly impressed!! i would of loved to have visited sooner but am abit of a zoo keeper myself with my 3yr old girl and identical twin girls age 13mths old who are all big animal lovers like myself. Unfortunately theres not much of a zoo in our backyard but my 3yr old daughter is crazy about bugs & spiders & always has been. She can spend hours outside playing with ants & lady bugs etc haha very cute! & has helped me get over my fear of spiders too which is good & the twins enjoy crawling after our pet rabbit Humphrey who is really tame. I thought i would come on here & have a look since were hoping to get over next year.. if i can talk my husband into the 2hr drive from the Gold coast. It would be my dream come true! to visit all the animals! most of them i could only dream about & big fan of the irwins of course..since i was little watching steve irwin on tv. So heres praying that it all works out it would be an experience of a lifetime im sure. I havent even left NZ yet..! i am really looking forward to coming over to Oz for the first time! the theme parks do sound good but i would actually prefer the Zoo! lol just too good of an opportunity to let pass by ! Keep up the good work guys hope 2 c u in the future & all your drop dead gorgeous animals!!
love Katie x
